Instructional Design Showcase – Prof. Sanders

DH150, Pirates of the Mediterranean through Text Analysis, uses text analysis to study this fascinating history. In this showcase, the presenter will explore:
- How Bruin Learn Modules and Pages have been used to structure a digital humanities course
- How Leganto, a course reading list tool in Bruin Learn that allows instructors to discover, create, and maintain course e-reserve and reading lists, has been explored and adopted in this DH150 course to help and support students begin their research projects on unfamiliar topics
- How to create and implement Bruin Learn Rubric to speed-up grading and discuss why it is crucial in making expectations transparent to students.
Faculty Bio
Ashley Sanders is Vice-Chair of Digital Humanities at UCLA. She offers courses on applied statistics for humanistic research, text analysis, social media data analytics, computational research capstones, and a large (120-student) project-based introductory DH course. Ashley holds a Ph.D. in History with a specialization in Digital Humanities from Michigan State University and a B.S. in both Mathematics and History.
